Always watch swimming kids. Don't leave alone even for a moment. |

Teach kids never to swim alone. |
|
|
Learn CPR for adults and kids. |
|
|
Teach kids the safe way to help someone in trouble in the water. Tell them to call for help and throw the person something that floats. |
|
|
Make sure kids take swimming lessons when they're ready, usually age 4. |
|
|
Don't let kids dive into water less than nine feet deep. |
|
|
Know that any child can get in trouble in the water, even if he/she is wearing a life jacket or has taken swimming lessons. |

Never leave open a gate to the pool. |
|
|
Never leave toys in or near the pool. |
|
|
Teach kids to stay away from pools drains. |
|
|
Keep phone and emergency numbers at the pool. |
|
|
Have rescue equipment, like a lifesaving ring by the pool. |
|
|
Have a fence that separates the pools from the house and yard. Have gates that close and lock automatically. |

|
Use a pool alarm, pool cover or gate alarm. |

Make sure kids swim in areas marked OK for swimming. |

|
Don't let kids dive into oceans, lakes or rivers because you don't know how deep the water is. |

Make sure everyone wears a life jacket near or in the water on boats. |

Know that water wings and inner tubes are not substitutes for life jackets. |
|
|
Don't let kids drive jet skis. |
